Awards season is coming! This is my favorite time of the year, apart from the Miss Universe competition :) I love watching Hollywood stars on the red carpet with my homemade score cards, raising them every time the camera focuses on an actress -- it feels very Fashion Olympics! Haha :) When I was younger, I didn't have any appreciation for these events, that was until I started to fall in love with fashion myself. I'm now able to appreciate even the more eclectic styles of these stars and see the beauty in every detail -- from the color, texture and length of a dress to how it matches a hairstyle, accessories, and all that. This Golden Globes was particularly special for me cause I woke up just in time to watch it begin! Haha :) Let's start with the scoring of these red carpet beauties. :)
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu
SCORE: 8/10
WHY: First of all, let me just say that Kerry Washington always looks divine in whatever she wears -- her body's just the kind that fits into anything seamlessly and her fine features with that chocolatey skin.. AHHH sorry, I find myself obsessing over her a lot of times! Let's talk about this dress.. It's a nude stretch-tulle with nude lining as well, hand-embroidered with Swarovski crystals by Miu Miu. I mean come on.. Doesn't that description already want to make you drool? If you see photos of this dress up close, it's even more beautiful than how it looks at this angle! Every detail of this dress was made to perfection! She wore a vintage Movado watch paired with Prada heels if I'm not mistaken. For a dress that stands out as much as she did, it was only right for her to keep everything as simple as possible. It only garnered an 8 cause her hair looks unkempt.
Francesca Eastwood in Giorgio Armani
Score: 8/10
WHY: Did you guys know she's Miss Golden Globes (the one who hands out the trophies), Clint Eastwood's daughter, the new face of Too Faced cosmetics, and is only 19 years old? Man, I'm 19.. I don't even look half as mature as she does. Haha! I mean that in a good way. I'm usually not a fan of white gowns on the rep carpet, being that my image of white gowns is meant to be for weddings only.. but Francesca does an excellent job of wearing this gown, and not letting it wear her! I love that she's wearing a bold red lip to offset the white gown (it's not even WHITE white, it's ecru?) If she wore a pink nude lipstick, THEN it would feel like a wedding dress. The floral lace trim on top makes the look younger, which is only apt for a 19 year old. I just wish that this gown didn't have a trail, it made it look too much -- if it ended at the base of her feet and just went around in a small circle, that would have been MUCH better.
Giuliana Rancic in Celia Kritharioto
Score: 6/10
WHY: Her gown is the type that you either totally love or hate.. I went with the hate part. I'm a big Giuliana fan, actually. I love her bubbly personality and her confidence as a host -- I usually love her fashion sense too! However this dress is all wrong.. It's a black lace velvet gown featuring a high neckline with lace detailing. Isn't anyone getting Esther vibes from this dress? It looks like something she would wear to the reunion of Orphan 20 years later. It's also an apt costume to Dia De Los Muertos as La Llorona, except without the scary white hair.
Julianne Hough in Monique Lhuillier
Score: 9/10
WHY: This is a really surprising piece coming from Monique Lhuillier. I''m used to seeing structured flowy gowns from her, and this golden embellished tulle dress is just.. WOW. Julianne looks immaculate in it especially with the super chic pompadour hairstyle! Her look screams rock princess, and it suits her so well. Ryan Seacrest better put a ring on that before it gets away.
Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan
Score: 8/10
WHY: Nicole Richie is one of my style icons, I've said that time and time again. She inspires me so much that I even used to copy her outfits circa 09, with the white loose tank and skull scarf. Haha! All of us will agree that Nicole's matured since her days partying with Paris and staring in The Simple Life. This pastel blue gown frames her petite body so well, and it matches her olive skin perfectly. The blue eyeshadow was so refreshing to see, since most of these stars opt for a nude or smokey look. Her eyes look so bright and she looks so fresh! The House of Harlow bag just didn't cut it for me.. I hate the fringe of the bag with that dress. Other than that, she looks amazing.
Amy Adams in Marchesa
Score: 9/10
WHY: Honestly, I don't think anyone can go wrong in a Marchesa gown. There are some designers that hit the perfect spot every time. This dress definitely tickled my fancy! Haha. This nude strapless gown is the perfect combination of sexy and classy for me -- the nude color of the dress blended so well with her skin, it actually looked like her skin. I love that the chest area is somewhat corseted making the look structured then right above the knees, it flows out with this soft tulle material. It's cinched at the smallest part of her body and hugs her perfectly at her waist til her knees before it flows out which creates an illusion that she's this statuesque tall figure when in fact she's only 5'5. The barrel curl in her hair disturbs me though.. Not a big fan of that.
Alyssa Milano in Port 1961 (?)
Score: 2/10
WHY: I really had to take a step back and think "Is she pregnant or fat?" Sadly, she just LOOKS fat... It's the draping of the dress, I'm guessing. Either way it's awful. Marigold is a hard color to wear, and she's not the type that can wear anything and it'll work for her. Matching it with those turquoise earrings, really?! And that black and gold clutch?! REALLY?! I hope she hires a stylist after this, say Monica Rose (who's one of my favesss), or if she does have a stylist, fire that bitch.
Isla Fisher in Reem Acra
Score: 8/10
WHY: This jeweled Reem Acra dress has got to be one of the best I've seen on the red carpet. The silhouette is so simple, but the detailing screams for attention. I love how the detailing is muted in the top making it look like the jewels are actually stuck to her but it's fine netting. It's glamorous but still very subdued. I love that Isla wore her hair down in a side sweep. She kinda reminds me of Veronica Lake with this hair! I actually saw the runway version of this, and this is one of the few times where the star looks better than the runway model wearing this dress. The crimson lip was a good touch too! *Did you guys know that in real life her husband is Sasha Baron Cohen? As in Borat? Haha!
Hayden Panetierre in Roberto Cavalli
Score: 9/10
WHY: Is it just me or does Hayden look a little old? I miss her cheeky face! And that lip color doesn't really go well with her dress, if you ask me. Other than that, this form fitting light pink gown does her justice. The silhouette of the gown is similar to Isla Fisher which is perfect for petite girls. She's only 5'1, but the dress makes her look longer -- again by flaring it out at the knees. The bright pink clutch is a nice touch too!
Katharine McPhee in Theyskens' Theory
Score: 10/10
WHY: I searched for pictures of her in this dress in every angle, and all of them were perfect. I can't say one bad thing about Katharine in this dress. The neckline plunges so low, and slit goes up so high -- you'd think it'd be trashy and too vulgar, but it's not! You should've seen a close up on her face too, she was so incredibly beautiful. It's hard to rock this outfit if you don't have an amazing body to go with it, and Katharine had that too. She just really looks immaculate in this dress. My favorite out of all the red carpet looks during the Globes. Plus, you can never go wrong with a top bun, nude lips and smokey eye right?
Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
Score: 9/10
WHY: I love dresses with cutouts, but it's really tricky to wear! In this dress' case, you need a really toned tummy cause it peeks at the part where you're supposed to have abs! Haha. This embroidered metallic gown from Michael Kors is eye candy to me! It's so refreshing to see this color on the red carpet since reds, blacks, and nudes are what we usually see. I saw the runway version of this dress, and I noticed that Emily styled it the same way. I love the pop of red and pink in her earrings too! I would've never thought of mixing the two.. Or maybe it's just Emily's charm that's won me over?
Halle Berry in Atelier Versace
Score: 1/10
WHY: 1 point for her sexy leg and nude shoe. Other than that, this whole outfit is a mess. I didn't know Versace made horrendous dresses! Haha. The cut out on this dress is extremely awkward, the prints are a mishmash of tacky cloth that they got on sale downtown, and the tight part in the middle looks too tight that I can actually see a bit of her tummy squeezing out. I don't know why anyone would do this to Halle Berry! This look reminds me of the VMAs circa 2004, and Halle, you're better than that.
Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
SCORE: 7/10
WHY: Who says 45 year olds can't look this good? Nicole Kidman has defied science by still looking so flawless in her mid 40's, and honestly, do you know any other 45 year old woman who can rock a McQueen dress as good as Nicole does? None? That's what I thought. I gave her only 7 points cause the face is looking a bit stiff, and the hair wasn't well thought of.
Taylor Swift in Donna Karan
SCORE: 4/10
WHY: This plum colored number from Donna Karan Atelier is the worst I've seen TSwift in.. It made her look soooo old. Her eyes looked tired, there weren't any accessories, the cloth doesn't look ironed, and her wonder bra was peeking from the side. I want the youthful TSwift back! I know she just broke up with HARRY STYLES and that must be heartbreaking, but get it together girl!
Anne Hathaway in Chanel
Score: 9/10
WHY: When I saw Anne on the red carpet it really made me want to cry. She's glowing, guys. GLOWING. She looks so beautiful and happy. This white strapless gown brought out her beauty even more. I love that the dress is peplum, but in a really toned down way (I actually thought this gown was 2 pieces). The peplum was there enough to accentuate her tiny waist. The simple jewelry matched the simple but elegant dress, and I really feel like Anne Hathaway nailed it that night.
Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera
Score: 6/10
WHY: I always wonder what the stars on the worst dressed list think of before they leave the house. What made them think that their dresses were a good idea? I mean, it's pretty common sense to tell a good dress apart from a bad dress. Lucy Liu, I'd really like to know what was going on in your mind when you put this dress on. It looks like she peeled of the wallpaper of a Marie Antoinette inspired room stuck it to some cloth and wrapped it around herself.. It was so irritating too cause the whole time she had her hands in her stupid pockets!
Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen
SCORE: 9.5/10
WHY: Kate Hudson is one of my favorite actresses, not for her acting ability, but for her flawless looks whenever she steps on the red carpet. This keyhole dress from McQueen looks great on her, and I love anything black on gold!! That dress will eternally be fashionable.
